Assessing poor adherence to asthma therapy "My medicine isn't working" Bruce K. Rubin, Jame B. Fink
In case control studies, asthma morbidity and mortality has been strongly associated with nonadherence to therapy. Despite the acknowledgement that understanding the appropriate use of medications and adherence to medication therapy are among the most important factors for effective asthma therapy, little guidance is given that the most important factors for effective asthma therapy, little guidance is given that can help the caregiver understand why a patient will not take therapy as directed of would misuse prescribed medications. In many cases the problem is not the medication at all and by changing prescriptions the problems can be compounded further. Many of the reasons for "medications not working" are discussed with suggestions that may help to improve patient understanding and adherence. The most important factor in overcoming these benefits are first understanding why the patient thinks the medication is not working and only then tailoring education to their beliefs.
