Overview of clinical studies of intranasal steroids used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis Laura Stoskute
Intranasal steroids have proved to be an effective and safe for the treatment and prophylaxis of allergic rhinitis. Pharmacologically, newer drugs such as mometasone furoate and fluticasone propionate appear to have substantially higher topical potencies and lipid solubilities and lower systemic bioavailabilities than do older compounds. Clinically, both vewer intranasal steroids appear to be well tolerated, to have quick onset of action, and to be equivalent in efficacy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. They appear to have practical advantages over older agents.
