Treatment of latent tuberculosis infection with 6 months of isoniazid has his limitation because of pure compliance. During the period of 1999–2003, 531 children with latent tuberculosis infection were treated at Pediatric outpatient department of Vilnius University State Hospital for TB and Infectious Diseases. The treatment was observed by nurses for adherence and intolerance, and examined by doctor monthly. The overall compliance rate was 70.2%. 483 of children were treated with isoniazid for 6 month (6H), and 48 – with rifampicin and isoniazid for 3 months (3HR). The compliance rate in these groups were 68.9 and 83.3%, respectively (p < 0,05), while the groups weren‘t equal in aspect of close tuberculosis contact (22% in 6H group and 45.8% in 3HR group (p <0.001)). No severe adverse reactions were observed.
