Asthma generally begins and has its greatest prevalence in early childhood. Asthma in small children is the field arising most discussions. The exacerbation of asthma, caused by respiratory viral infections is the main problem of such patients, their parents and doctors. In the article it is discussed the influence of virus infections to exacerbation of asthma and importance of leukotrienes in their pathogenesis. There is also given the recent data of control and treatment possibilities in exacerbation of children asthma. The last results of PREVIA study, assessing effectiveness of montelukast in threatment of virus-induced asthma exacerbation in 2–5 year children, are presented.
