PRIMARY SPONTANEOUS PNEUMOTHORAX IN CHILDREN

This article is devoted to retrospective analysis of our 23 in-patient paediatric cases with middle age of 15,5 (11–17) years. All patients were hospitalized in Vilnius University Children’s Hospital during the period 1999–2007. It was diagnosed pulmonary dysplasias as most likely causes of pneumothorax in 7 patients (30,4 %) and genetic disorders in 3 patients. Tuberculosis was diagnosed in 8 patients and viral infection with bronchial obstruction in 8 patients. Recurrent spontaneus pneumothoraz was found in 39,1 % of our cases. The article is analysed different options of the management of pneumothorax and possibilities to prevent recurrence of pneumothorax in children.
