BCG is one of the most widely used vaccines in the world and adverse reactions are rare. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of adverse reactions following BCG vaccination in the years 2000–2007 and to examine the character of these reactions and treatment features. We analysed data of 67 children from Vilnius district and 23 children admitted to our center from other parts of Lithuania. The incidence of BCG related adverse reactions during this time was 0,05–0,13 perc. per year. Most of the cases of adverse reactions (80,6 perc.) were following first BCG vaccination. The most frequent complications were an abscess and regional lymphadenitis. In the case of BCG related lymphadenitis spontaneous healing is very rare. The surgical extirpation and further systemic treatment with antituberculosis drugs was used in most of the cases. Puncture and draining were used to treat abscesses after BCG vaccination, systemic treatment is not reguired.
